Rules of Play for Children Using Golf Bays.
For young people under 18 using golf bays outside organised junior coaching sessions
Updated 14 October 2026
These rules apply to children and young people using Tempo Golf Ltd’s simulator bays outside organised junior coaching sessions. During a casual or member booking, Tempo Golf Ltd staff do not provide continuous supervision of the child. The parent, guardian or accompanying responsible adult remains responsible for active supervision in accordance with the age requirements below. Tempo Golf Ltd remains responsible for taking reasonable steps to provide a safe environment and for matters within its control.
Different supervision arrangements apply during organised junior coaching sessions, where children are supervised by Tempo Golf Ltd’s coaching staff for the duration of the session. Please refer to the Rules & Safety Guidelines for Junior Coaching Sessions. These are Tempo Golf Ltd’s child-specific health and safety rules and must be read together with the Rules of Play & Safety Guidelines.
Golf and simulator activities involve physical risks associated with golf clubs, golf balls, movement within the simulator bay and the actions of other participants. Tempo Golf Ltd takes reasonable steps to provide a safe environment, appropriately maintained equipment and appropriate safety controls. Nothing in these rules excludes or limits any responsibility or liability that Tempo Golf Ltd cannot lawfully exclude or limit.
Where children and young people use the premises, Tempo Golf Ltd also maintains safeguarding arrangements designed to promote their welfare and protect them from harm. Any safeguarding concern should be reported to a member of staff and will be handled in accordance with Tempo Golf Ltd’s Safeguarding Policy.
Supervision by Age
The accompanying adult is responsible for the child’s safety and behaviour during the visit. A child must never be dropped off at Tempo Golf Ltd and left without the supervision required for their age. There must be at least one responsible adult aged 18 or over for every two children, and no more than two children in a bay. Children may play in Bays 1 and 2 only.
Independent Play for Ages 16 and 17
A consent form must be requested by the parent or guardian and returned in advance. Tempo Golf Ltd will keep a record of the consent form, together with parent or guardian and emergency contact details, on our records.
Independent play is limited to bookings between 7am and 7pm. After 7pm an accompanying adult aged 18 or over is required, whatever consent is held.
Where a 16 or 17 year old plays with a friend, written consent is also required for the second young person and the bay is limited to two players.
Safety instructions and the rules for unsupervised play will be provided before independent play begins. The young person will also have been made aware of the Rules of Play & Safety Guidelines and these Safety Rules for Children Using Golf Bays.
Swing Zone Rule
Never stand in the swing zone while someone is swinging a club.
Only one person may swing at a time.
Everyone else must stand behind the player and completely clear of the swing zone.
Never swing when another person is within the swing zone.
Stop immediately if someone enters the swing zone.
Children must follow instructions about where to stand.
The accompanying adult must actively supervise younger children and help keep them safely positioned.
Tempo Golf Ltd staff may stop play immediately if they see an unsafe situation.
Golf Clubs & Equipment
All children must:
use golf clubs responsibly;
only pick up or swing a club when it is safe to do so;
never take an uncontrolled practice swing;
never throw or deliberately misuse clubs or equipment;
never touch cables or interfere with simulator technology; and
follow reasonable instructions from Tempo Golf Ltd staff.
Children should use equipment that is suitable for them. Where Tempo Golf Ltd staff reasonably consider that the available equipment cannot be used safely by a child, the child must not use that equipment. If suitable equipment is not available, the responsible adult should consider whether the child can safely use what is available.
Behaviour in the Bay
All children must:
walk rather than run;
remain within their allocated bay;
not enter neighbouring bays;
not touch, climb on or deliberately approach the impact screen;
never go behind or under the screen, under any circumstances;
not interfere with simulator technology or equipment;
not deliberately disturb other guests; and
follow reasonable instructions from Tempo Golf Ltd staff.
If behaviour creates a safety risk, Tempo Golf Ltd staff may stop play and speak with the responsible adult. If unsafe behaviour continues, Tempo Golf Ltd may require the session to end or ask the group to leave.
Bay Capacity
A maximum of four players may be allocated to a simulator bay. No more than two children may use a bay at any one time, and the bay must not exceed four people in total. Children may play in Bays 1 and 2 only.
Only the player taking their turn may enter the astroturf hitting area. Other players must remain behind the astroturf and clear of the swing zone. Additional guests may remain only in an adjacent designated seating area or behind the bay where space allows. They must not enter the hitting area, obstruct walkways, encroach into neighbouring bays or obstruct emergency escape routes. Tempo Golf Ltd staff may restrict numbers or require people to move where necessary for safety.
Food, Drink, Alcohol, Smoking and Vaping
Alcohol must not be supplied or sold to anyone under 18.
Children and young people must not consume alcohol at Tempo Golf Ltd.
An adult responsible for supervising a child must remain capable of providing appropriate supervision at all times. Tempo Golf Ltd may stop a child’s participation where an accompanying adult’s consumption of alcohol or behaviour compromises their ability to supervise safely.
Smoking and vaping are not permitted inside the venue.
Food and drinks must be kept away from simulator screens, electrical equipment and other areas where they could create a hazard.
Suitable Footwear
Children must wear suitable footwear when using the simulator bays. Open-toed shoes are not permitted for play.
Hazards & Equipment Problems
Tell a member of Tempo Golf Ltd staff immediately if you see:
a spill;
damaged flooring;
loose or damaged cables;
damaged equipment or furniture; or
anything else that could create a safety risk.
Do not attempt to repair or move equipment yourself.
Staff Instructions
Tempo Golf Ltd staff may:
stop play;
require a player or child to move to a safer position;
restrict use of equipment or a bay; or
require a group to leave where reasonably necessary for safety, security or behaviour.
Guests must follow reasonable instructions from Tempo Golf Ltd staff, and responsible adults are expected to assist staff in keeping children safe. The accompanying responsible adult retains responsibility for actively supervising the child throughout play, including making sure the child follows these rules and the Rules of Play & Safety Guidelines and remains clear of the swing zone. Tempo staff provide general venue safety oversight and may intervene where unsafe behaviour is observed, but do not replace the accompanying adult’s supervision.
First Aid and Medical Emergencies
Report any injury, illness or medical emergency to a member of Tempo Golf Ltd staff immediately. First-aid assistance will be provided within staff members’ training and competence and in accordance with Tempo’s first-aid arrangements. The accompanying responsible adult remains responsible for supervising the child. Where significant medical attention or treatment is required, the child’s parent or guardian will be contacted. In a serious or life-threatening emergency, staff will call 999 immediately without waiting for parental permission and will inform the parent, guardian or emergency contact as soon as reasonably practicable.
All accidents and first-aid treatment must be reported and recorded in accordance with Tempo Golf Ltd’s procedures.
Emergency Evacuation
If the fire alarm sounds:
Stop playing immediately.
Leave the bay calmly.
Follow staff instructions.
Use the nearest safe exit.
Go to the designated assembly point.
Do not re-enter until instructed.
The accompanying adult remains responsible for supervising the child during evacuation and must follow instructions from Tempo Golf Ltd staff.
Assembly point: opposite Jack’s Café, on the corner of Lonsdale Road and Salusbury Road.
Safeguarding
These are primarily health and safety rules for casual visits. They do not replace Tempo Golf Ltd’s Safeguarding Policy or its other safeguarding arrangements. Any safeguarding concern involving a child should be reported to a member of staff immediately and will be dealt with in accordance with Tempo Golf Ltd’s safeguarding procedures. For organised junior coaching, the Rules & Safety Guidelines for Junior Coaching Sessions apply.
